Bernard is a past National Chairman & Policy Chairman of the National Federation of Self-Employed & Small Businesses FSB. As such he is an Honorary Life Member. He designed their Coat of Arms which was Granted by the College of Arms.
He was also the Secretary and a Senior Vice-President of the Birmingham and Midland Institute. He designed their Arms as well, together with the Chairman's Basge of the Birmingham & Edgbaston Debating Society.
He is a Past President of the Birmingham-based, British Magical Society (the oldest such in the world) and was a member of the International Brotherhood of Magicians
He was also a Member of the prestigious Magic Circle, achieving its exclusive highest grade of Member of the Inner Magic Circle with Gold Star. Together with his wife, Pamrla Yvonne, they appeared throughout the UK with their illusion act, "Illusions Unlimited". They also visited France & the USA.
Bernard has a large collection of cartoons with a magical theme, most of which are in the Templeton Library of the University of Canterbury where they can be seen by the public.Many of them are the original artwork and of a political nature.
Colin Whittock, the popular Birmingham Post & Mail cartoonist sent a Christmas card which was later made into a personal card.
